Q:
How do you train for what’s ahead?
A:
We start with the big macro-picture and build to the small micro-picture, often four years, and then yearly. We step back from major competitions and build a training plan for these events, keeping in mind the type of athlete we will need to be to win that event. This approach helps us focus on our weaknesses and build our weapons. It gives the body time to make changes to its size and shape.
Q:
What’s one small change regular people can make to live a healthier lifestyle?
A:
Make looking after your body your Number One priority. After all, it’s the one thing you will own you whole life.
Q:
What inspires you to compete?
A:
My motivation comes from within. When you test yourself beyond anything you’ve ever done before, when you go for it 110 percent, that’s when you learn, that’s when you’re really living!
Q:
Advice to someone thinking about a triathlon?
A:
You will surprise yourself with what your body can do. Be prepared to get hooked! Because it’s such a challenge to master all three disciplines, it can become very addictive.
Q:
What do you focus on while competing?
A:
Everything I need and have worked on in training to pull off a win. Staying positive, specific, efficient and above all, enjoying the experience.
Q:
What’s your lean lifestyle mantra?
A:
Eat to train, don’t train to eat.
