Sweet 'N Spicy Trail Mix
Sweet and savory, spicy and salty, this homemade trail mix satisfies all your cravings. Oven-toasted, spiced nuts are perfectly paired with tart, dried cranberries and sweet, candy-coated chocolate pieces.

Cooking: 30 minutes  
Time-To-Table: 1 hour  
Serves: Makes 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste
  • 1/4 cup AllWhites® egg whites
  • 2 cups hulled pistachios and/or cashew pieces
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup candy-coated pieces (M & M’s)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oven to 300°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment. Mix sugar, salt, chili powder, cinnamon, allspice and cayenne in small bowl.
  2. Pour AllWhites egg whites into a large bowl; stir in nuts. Add sugar mixture, stirring until nuts are well coated.
  3. Lift nuts from seasoned egg white mixture with a fork or your fingers; arrange on prepared baking sheet. Bake about 30 minutes or until browned and coating is dry. Cool completely.
  4. Break nuts apart; toss with cranberries and candy pieces. Store in airtight container.

Substitute other nuts, like pecans, peanuts, or almonds.
